All children should be reading a book every evening or at least a few times a week. School provides levelled home-reading books until your child becomes a competent reader, at which point, they can choose books from our library or any appropriate books they have at home. We have a reading rewards system where children receive rewards as they reach various reading checkpoints.
Children will be given a list of spellings to learn fortnightly. At the end of the first week on the Friday, they’ll be tested on their spellings and will then bring home a spelling card showing how many words they spelled correctly and any words they spelled incorrectly. In the second week, they should focus on the spellings they did not get correct in the test. If they had all spellings correct, they should spend a little time revising those same spellings for the dictation test the following Friday.

Generally themes/topics run for a half-term or in some cases, a term. At the start of a new theme/topic, we will post a few home-learning activities on SeeSaw/Google Classroom linked to children’s themes. For example – If the theme is World War II and we’re looking at rationing, we might post an activity such as keeping a food diary.
