Giggle Wiggle Restaurant Opens Its Doors!

This evening, two of our literacy and numeracy groups turned learning into a real-life adventure by planning, launching and running their very own restaurant – proudly named the Giggle Wiggle Restaurant.

From start to finish, the children led the entire project, applying their learning in purposeful, practical and joyful ways.

From idea to opening night

The journey began with the children designing their own menu and surveying people about their favourite meals. They didn’t stop there – the results were carefully recorded and turned into graphs, helping them interpret data and make informed decisions about what to serve.

Once the menu was agreed, the groups moved on to writing shopping lists, before heading out on a real visit to Aldi to buy the ingredients. This brought numeracy to life as pupils worked within a budget, compared prices and made choices just like real restaurateurs.

Cooking up learning

Back at school, the children rolled up their sleeves and got cooking! They:

Weighed and measured ingredients accurately Timed cooking and baking using ovens and timers Prepared a delicious Spaghetti Bolognese, which proved to be a huge hit Baked chocolate cake for dessert (and yes… it was as good as it sounds!)

The kitchen was full of teamwork, problem-solving and plenty of excitement.

Opening the Giggle Wiggle Restaurant

In the evening, the Giggle Wiggle Restaurant officially opened its doors to parents and family members, who came along to enjoy the food and support the children. The atmosphere was buzzing, and the pride on the children’s faces said it all.

Next, the pupils will:

Count and total the money raised Read and respond to their Tripadvisor-style reviews, developing reflection and evaluation skills

Learning that lasts

Most importantly, the children had an amazing time. They could clearly see how literacy and numeracy skills matter in the real world – from reading, writing and speaking, to measuring, timing, counting and analysing data.

A huge well done to everyone involved in making the Giggle Wiggle Restaurant such a success. It was a brilliant example of learning together, hand in hand – and we’re pretty sure we’ve got some future chefs, managers and entrepreneurs in the making! 👏🍰 A big thank you to Mrs Dennis and Mr Evans for working with the two groups on the project!
