Girls’ Football Festival at St Julian’s Primary
On Thursday 2nd October, St Julian’s Primary School hosted an exciting Girls’ Football Festival for our talented Year 5 and 6 pupils — and what a fantastic day it was!
The event was full of energy, teamwork, and brilliant footballing skills. From powerful passes to determined defending and some truly impressive goals, every team showed great sportsmanship and enthusiasm throughout the day. It was wonderful to see so many young players growing in confidence and enjoying the game together.
A huge thank you to our visiting schools — Clytha, Mount Pleasant, Eveswell, Pentrepoeth, and Glan Usk — for joining us and making the festival such a success. Your players brought amazing effort and smiles, helping to create a fun and friendly atmosphere for everyone.
We’re already looking forward to seeing everyone again for the next festival in February — we can’t wait to see even more fantastic football on show!

Inspiring Assembly with Olympic Athlete Charlotte Wingfield
We were thrilled to welcome Charlotte Wingfield, a Maltese Olympic sprinter, to St Julian’s Primary School this week! Charlotte delivered an inspiring assembly for our Year 3 and Year 6 pupils, sharing her incredible journey as an elite athlete.
During her talk, Charlotte spoke openly about the highs and lows of her sporting career — from the challenges she faced to the determination it took to reach the Olympic Games. She reminded us that success doesn’t always come easily, but with hard work, resilience, and self-belief, we can achieve amazing things.
Charlotte also encouraged everyone to dream big and take responsibility for shaping their own futures. Her message was clear: no dream is too big if you are willing to put in the effort and believe in yourself.
Our pupils were truly inspired by Charlotte’s story and her positive attitude. It was wonderful to see so many thoughtful questions and enthusiastic faces as she spoke about her passion for athletics and her record-breaking achievements.
A huge thank you to Charlotte Wingfield for visiting our school and motivating us all to chase our dreams — both on and off the track!

Newport Primary School Shines at Mixed Football Festival and EFL Cup
On Wednesday 8th October, the school took part in the Mixed Newport Primary Schools’ Football Festival at the Newport Velodrome, where 14 schools from across the city came together for an exciting day of football on the new 3G pitch. It was an action-packed day filled with great teamwork, determination, and sportsmanship. The team performed brilliantly, winning 8 out of their 12 fixtures — a fantastic achievement against strong competition!
The standout moment of the tournament came from Ramsey, who scored what the team agreed was the goal of the day after a wonderful link-up play with Mollie, volleying the ball into the back of the net from just outside the penalty area. The children were exceptionally well-behaved and represented the school with pride, teamwork, and enthusiasm throughout the event. A huge thank you to all the parents who came along to cheer from the sidelines. Special thanks go to Mr and Mrs Swift for the much-appreciated Greggs doughnut delivery, which kept everyone smiling!
The school football team also participated in the EFL Kids Cup, where they played brilliantly and qualified for the finals the following week. It was a highly contested competition, and the team narrowly missed out on making it through to the regional competition. We’re so proud of their fantastic efforts, determination, and teamwork — well done everyone!

Show Racism the Red Card
We were delighted to welcome Show Racism the Red Card back to our school this half term!
Their team has been working closely with our Year 5 and 6 pupils to continue promoting kindness, respect, and equality across our school community.
This term, 12 enthusiastic ambassadors from Years 5 and 6 have been chosen to work with a Show Racism the Red Card leader every two weeks. Together, they’ve already created a fantastic list of actions and ideas to help raise awareness and encourage everyone to stand up against racism. They have collectively decided to call themselves the ‘Racism Busters’!
Over the coming weeks, our ambassadors will be putting their plans into action—leading by example and inspiring others to make our school a place where everyone feels valued and included.
We also took part in Show Racism the Red Card Day, where the entire school came dressed in red and joined in lessons and activities all about standing up to racism and celebrating diversity. It was wonderful to see everyone showing their support and commitment to equality.
We’re so proud of our pupils’ enthusiasm and dedication, and we can’t wait to see the positive impact they’ll continue to make across our school community!

NSPCC Assemblies and Workshops Year 5,6 and 2
Children in Years 2, 5 and 6 took part in NSPCC workshops this half term, learning about how to stay safe and speak out if something worries them. Through age-appropriate discussions and activities, pupils explored the importance of recognising trusted adults and understanding their right to be heard and protected.
