We have had such a wonderful Spring A term, filled with learning, exploration and lots of exciting experiences. It has been especially lovely to welcome our new rising 3 pupils who joined our Nursery at the start of this term. They have settled in beautifully and are already growing in confidence and independence as part of our nursery family.
Our theme this term, “Goodbye Autumn, Hello Winter,” sparked lots of curiosity and discussion. The children enjoyed learning about winter and seasonal changes through a range of hands-on activities. One highlight was our interviews with Mr Jones, Mrs Hill, Mrs Howells & Miss Welsh. We asked them lots of questions such as “what do you like to eat in winter?” and “what do you wear before you go out when it is cold outside?” The children came up with some fantastic questions to ask and were so excited!
Nursery have also enjoyed a range of investigations, including ice investigations as our water trays and puddles were regularly frozen overnight and exploring ramps with cars. They experimented with different heights and surfaces, learning about cause and effect while making predictions about which ramp would make the cars go the furthest.
We have continued to build confidence and coordination through our music and movement sessions, which the children have loved. These sessions allowed them to express themselves creatively while following rhythms and instructions with lots of music and musical instruments. Our time outdoors has been just as exciting, with regular opportunities to explore forest school. A particular favourite was den building, which encouraged imagination and a lot of team work.
To celebrate St Dwynwen’s Day and Valentine’s Day, the children created thoughtful crafts and cards, leading to lovely discussions about kindness, friendship and caring for others. During Children’s Mental Health Week, we focused on talking about our feelings, helping the children to understand how different situations can make us feel and encouraging them to share their emotions in a safe and supportive way.
We were very lucky to take part in a Chartwells workshop, where the children made healthy snacks and joined in with a fun ‘Time to Move’ session, promoting healthy lifestyles and physical well being. The children showed great enthusiasm and independence throughout.
With Pancake Day approaching, the children enjoyed making delicious pancakes, following instructions and helping to prepare ingredients. Making independent choices about the toppings they wanted and sharing with others. This was a fantastic opportunity to develop independence and practical life skills. Finally, we have been busy preparing for the Eisteddfod. The children have been independently choosing materials and a design for their competition piece. The finished pieces are wonderful and unique to every child who has created them.
It has been a very busy but a very fun half term and we are so proud of everything the children have done.
We look forward to another busy half term in Spring B!
