Reception have had a very busy and exciting half term, packed full of learning, experiences and festive fun!
We began the half term by exploring Bonfire Night, where the children enjoyed sharing and recounting their own experiences. This was a wonderful opportunity to develop speaking and listening skills while learning about celebrations and safety. We then learned the story of The Little Red Hen. The children loved retelling the story and taking part in role play. To bring the story to life, we baked our own bread just like the Little Red Hen and enjoyed sharing it with our friends.
As part of our topic ‘My Story Starts Here’, we began learning about what it means to be a pupil at SJPS. We were very lucky to receive a visit from Mr Mansfield, Mrs Hill and Mr Jones. The children enjoyed chatting with them and learning more about their important jobs and the important people who help us in school every day. We then moved on to our People Who Help Us week, which was a real highlight. We welcomed visits from the local police, Niamh the nurse, and the fire service. The children asked lots of thoughtful questions and learned all about how these helpers keep us safe and healthy in our community.
Another magical moment this half term was our visit to Santa at Tredegar House. The children were wonderfully behaved and so excited to meet Santa. As Christmas approached, we fully embraced the festive season. We enjoyed carol singing at Glyn Anwen and worked incredibly hard rehearsing for our Christmas concert. The children showed so much confidence, enthusiasm and teamwork, and we are incredibly proud of their efforts.
We are so proud of everything the Reception children have achieved this half term. They have worked hard, grown in confidence and embraced every new experience with enthusiasm. We look forward to welcoming them all back in January for more exciting learning adventures!
