Reception’s Beautiful Half Term: ‘All Things Bright and Beautiful’
What a wonderful and busy half term we’ve had in Reception! Our topic, ‘All Things Bright and Beautiful’, has truly lived up to its name as we explored the meaning of the word ‘beautiful’ in so many exciting and creative ways.
We began by celebrating some very special occasions. For St David’s Day, we painted stunning watercolour daffodils, brightening up our classroom with beautiful shades of yellow. We also created thoughtful and colourful Mother’s Day cards, which we were so proud to take home and share with our loved ones.
Our celebrations didn’t stop there! We enjoyed a fantastic Eisteddfod, where we celebrated Welsh culture, and had so much fun during our very own Easter bonnet parade—the creativity on display was incredible!
One of the highlights of the term was our lovely parent event, where we celebrated the arrival of spring together. We got busy making flower crowns, decorating delicious biscuits, and retelling the story of Jasper’s Beanstalk. It was so special to share our learning with our families.
Inspired by the story, we planted our very own beanstalks and carefully tracked their growth over the half term. We loved watching them change and grow taller each week! To celebrate our budding gardeners, we awarded a certificate to the tallest beanstalk—what an achievement!
We also became engineers, designing and creating our own inventions. We planned carefully, built our ideas, and then evaluated how well they worked. It was amazing to see so many imaginative creations and problem-solving skills in action.
We were lucky to have a visit from Nature Rangers, who showed us how to enjoy and create in the great outdoors. We made adorable clay frogs and even created our own seed planters using recycled paper—helping us care for our environment while being creative.
To end our half term, we went on an exciting trip to the farm, which helped us begin exploring our brand new topic: ‘All Creatures Great and Small’. We had such a fantastic time and can’t wait to learn more after the Easter break!
It has been a joyful half term filled with creativity, celebration, and discovery. We are so proud of everything the children have achieved and cannot wait to continue our learning journey in the new term.
Have a wonderful Easter break
