Year 2 Autumn B update

This term, we have been busy learning about space and astronauts as part of our ‘Newport under the stars’ theme. We made some tasty star biscuits by being very clever and doubling the recipe!

Have you ever wondered what astronauts eat in space? Well, we found out! The food is all frieze-dried to last. We tasted some space ice-cream and then decided which flavour we preferred by completing a bar chart. Then, we compared it with REAL ice-cream! We definitely preferred the real thing.

During this half term, we have also celebrated Diwali. We made Diva lamps out of folded paper, they were beautiful! We did those following on from what we learnt about the story of Rama and Sita and why Diva lamps are important. We made delicious Diwali sweets as well – they were yummy!

In our Forest School sessions this term, we have been learning some bushcraft skills, like making dens and making bird feeders. We had so much fun putting on our outdoor gear and getting out exploring!

We topped off our term with the BEST Christmas show we’re sure you’ve ever seen, and a visit from Father Christmas, who brought us all a gift.

Our final project was about crisp packets, in which we learned how to sort them, how to reuse them and how to recycle them. Class 3 won the competition by collecting 140 crisp packets! Da iawn, ti 🙂 Our trip to Wastesavers, Newport, taught us so much about how important it is to wash out your recycling – it smelled very bad! It also showed us how recycled items get reused. We must remember the 3Rs – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!

Diolch yn fawr for all your support this, and every term. Have a wonderful Christmas and a very Happy New Year, from all the Year 2 team 🙂
