What a fantastic term it has been in Year 3! As we reach the end of our autumn adventures and head into the Christmas break, we’ve been looking back at everything we’ve achieved — and what an exciting journey it has been.
This term, we continued our ‘Time Travellers’ theme, travelling all the way back to the fascinating world of the Romans. We explored real and replica Roman artefacts, discovering how people lived nearly two thousand years ago. In Literacy, we were inspired by a recent news article about a Roman discovery in Wales. Using this as our model, we became journalists and wrote our own newspaper reports about a Roman artefact “discovered” in Newport. The children produced some fantastic writing full of detail and imagination!
In Maths, our focus has been on money. We practised adding and subtracting different amounts, working out totals, and calculating change. To bring our learning to life, we took a very special trip to the post office, where we bought stamps and posted our letters to Santa. It was a brilliant way to use our maths skills in the real world.

Speaking of Santa… we were incredibly lucky because he visited our classroom! The children were delighted when he surprised us with festive cheer and even brought selection boxes for everyone.

Spreading joy was an important part of our December. We visited Glyn Anwen Care Home to sing Christmas carols, and the residents absolutely loved our performance. The children sang beautifully and helped make the season a little brighter for others.
We also finished the term with a bang! Our Christmas concert, ‘I’m Gonna Shine’, was a huge success — the children sang, acted, and sparkled on stage. To celebrate all their hard work, we rounded everything off with a fun-filled Christmas party.
What a busy, joyful, and memorable term it has been. We are incredibly proud of all the children for their enthusiasm, kindness, and hard work.
Wishing all our families a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Enjoy the well-deserved break, and we look forward to more adventures in the spring term! 🎄✨
