Year 3 Summer A Update

What a fantastic (and very busy!) few weeks we’ve had in Year 3! Even though it’s been a short half term, we’ve packed in lots of exciting learning and activities, and we’re so proud of everything the children have achieved.

We’ve really enjoyed diving into our topic on the rainforest. We kicked things off with an exciting Discover and Do afternoon, where the children got hands-on building their very own rainforests, writing postcards from the jungle, measuring the heights of rainforest trees, carrying out research about the different layers and animals, and creating some beautiful artwork inspired by the vibrant colours of the rainforest.

As part of our creative work, we also used Chrome Music Lab to compose music to match rainforest paintings. The children loved experimenting with sound and rhythm to reflect the mood, colours, and animals in their artwork – we definitely have some budding composers in our midst!

We were also lucky to be joined by Mrs Rue, who helped us create amazing cardboard sculptures in the style of artist Daisy Jordan. The children had a great time getting creative with different materials and techniques – it was a real highlight of the term!

Another special moment was when one of our classmates kindly brought in their butterflies for us to release on the field. It was a magical experience watching them flutter away into the sunshine, and it tied in beautifully with our focus on nature and life cycles.

In Maths, we’ve been exploring fractions and time – the children have been working hard to understand these tricky concepts and are making great progress. In Literacy, we’ve been performing ‘The Lion and the Mouse’, using our voices and actions to bring the story to life. It was great fun watching each other’s performances and giving thoughtful feedback to our classmates!

We’re also keeping a close eye on our sunflowers, which we planted at the start of the term. They’re growing beautifully, and we’re doing really well on the class leader board – green thumbs all round! We’ve also been making rainforests in bottles in Forest School with Mrs Buckley!

With Sports Day just around the corner on 6th June, we’ve also been practising our races and team events. The children are showing great team spirit and enthusiasm – we can’t wait to cheer them on!

We were incredibly lucky to welcome a parent in during our final week who shared his amazing experiences from his time spent in the rainforest His visit truly brought our topic to life with amazing photos and videos that helped to capture the children’s imaginations. It was so wonderful to see real-world links to our topic, giving the children an opportunity to make connections with everything they have been learning. A big thank you again for such an inspiring and exciting talk!

It may have only been a short four-week half term, but we’ve squeezed in so much learning, creativity, and fun. Well done, Year 3 – you’ve been brilliant! We look forward to learning more about the rainforest when you return for your final half term in Year 3!

Have a lovely half term break! 🌿🌻🌞
