What a whirlwind of a term it has been for Year 4! From the stage to the Antarctic ice, our pupils have shown incredible creativity, resilience, and curiosity.
🏴 A Celebration of Culture: The Eisteddfod
We hit the ground running in our first week back with our school Eisteddfod. It was wonderful to see the children showcase their talents across so many categories. We were blown away by so many talents, including brave soloists and groups filling the hall with music, beautiful handwriting, and a stunning array of model castles that would make any knight proud!
📚 World Book Day Magic
The classroom was transformed into a library of living legends for World Book Day. Whether it was a superhero, a classic fairy tale character, or a modern-day protagonist, the effort put into costumes was fantastic. The highlight of the day was seeing the children share their favourite stories with one another—there is truly nothing better than a community of readers.

🔨 Engineers in the Making: STEM Project
Our STEM project took us into the world of construction and thermal dynamics. The children became mini-architects, using real saws and wood to build sturdy den frames.
The Challenge: To find the perfect material to keep a “Lego Man” warm and dry. Through rigorous testing and investigation, we discovered which materials were the best insulators and which were most waterproof!

🏑 Teamwork on the Pitch
In P.E., we’ve been braving the elements to master our hockey skills. The progress has been brilliant! We focused on dribbling by keeping the ball under close control, passing and shooting. But most importantly, working as a team!

⏳ A Journey Through Time: The Welsh Not
One of our most impactful experiences was our two-day Welsh History project. We travelled back to the era of the “Welsh Not” to learn about the struggle of the Welsh language. The children were deeply moved learning how our language nearly disappeared. We spent time acting out scenes from 1800’s classrooms, which really helped us understand the importance of our heritage and the Welsh language today.

🧊 Lights, Camera, Action! Lego Stop-Motion
In our ICT and History sessions, we retold the epic survival story of Ernest Shackleton and his crew on the Endurance. Using Lego stop-motion animation, the children recreated the journey through the Antarctic ice. The patience required to move those tiny Lego arms frame-by-frame was impressive!
🗺️ Scavenger Hunt Success at Beechwood Park
We finished the term on a high note with a trip to Beechwood Park. It was the perfect opportunity to put our orienteering skills to the test. Armed with maps, compasses and a keen eye, the children successfully navigated the park to find hidden clues. A huge thank you to the parents who joined us—your support made the afternoon extra special!
We are so proud of everything Year 4 has accomplished. We hope you all have a restful and happy Easter break, and we can’t wait to start our new adventures in the summer term!
