Year 6 Autumn B Update

As we come to the end of another busy and exciting half term in Year 6, we would like to share some highlights of all the fantastic learning that has taken place.

Our Lights, Camera, Action! theme drew to a spectacular close with our very own Oscars Day. The children spent the day celebrating the culmination of weeks of hard work by showcasing their completed films. It was wonderful to see their creativity, teamwork and perseverance rewarded as we watched the final productions together. It wouldn’t have been complete without our very own awards for Best Actor, Best Filming, and Most Creative Script. The red carpet vibes were unforgettable! You can view some of the highlights of the day here

As part of our Literacy learning, we studied Shakespeare’s Macbeth. The children explored the play in depth by writing detailed character descriptions and stepping into role to plan, write and perform powerful soliloquies. Using storyboards, they imagined and planned alternative endings to the play, before writing scripts, performing scenes, and finally editing their own films. Alongside this, Altrudrama sessions brought the story of Macbeth to life through drama activities, helping the children deepen their understanding of characters, themes and emotions.

The creative work continued with claymation animation, where pupils planned, created and filmed their own animations, developing both storytelling and technical skills.

We also valued pupil voice this half term. The children planned and enjoyed a trip to the cinema, applying their numeracy skills to real-life situations such as reading bus timetables and managing a budget. Another pupil voice activity took place in the Year 6 cooking suite, linked to food from films. The children prepared and enjoyed chocolate cake inspired by Matilda, as well as ratatouille and freshly baked bread rolls.

In addition to our classroom learning, the children took part in County in the Community PE sessions, developing teamwork, fitness and confidence. They also completed their Year 6 safe cycling sessions, learning important skills to help them stay safe and responsible when cycling independently.

It has been a half term full of creativity, collaboration and memorable experiences. We are incredibly proud of the enthusiasm and effort shown by all the children and would like to thank you for your continued support. We are looking forward to another exciting half term ahead!
