Year 1 Spring B Blog

We have been really enjoying our focus on ‘Julia Donaldson’ and her amazing books!

This half term we have been reading and learning about ‘The Gruffalo’, ‘Room on the Broom’ and ‘Zog’. We have been lucky enough to participate in lots of new experiences.

At the start of the term we started reading and learning about ‘Zog’. This book didn’t just give us the opportunity to do lots of fun activities related to Zog, but we also used this as an opportunity to learn about fire safety, as Zog learns how to breathe fire and as we were celebrating St David’s Day, Zog the Dragon came at the perfect time!

The book taught us how to be resilient and never give up.

During the lead up to the Eisteddfod, we got very creative and used Rhiannon Roberts artwork as inspiration for our competition entries. They were very colourful, detailed and eye-catching.

Lots of boys and girls dressed up as characters for World Book Day from Julia Donaldson’s books! We had a very busy day and it was lovely to see everyone’s efforts!

We were very lucky to have a visit from a Mad Scientist who showed us lots of different experiments. We absolutely loved it and had so much fun!!

We have been very busy in the kitchen this half term. We have been following the instructions on recipes to make delicious easter nest cakes, Gruffalo crumble, bara brith and Gruffalo claw cookies. We had to make sure we measured and weighed the ingredients correctly and then cooked them for the correct amount of time.

The last week of this term was a very fun and busy week. Not only did we get creative and design some beautiful Easter cards to take home for our families, we also went on a trip!

We visited Mountain View Ranch and followed the trail to find….THE GRUFFALO!

We had SO much fun!! The sun shone brightly, we were all very sensible and we did our teachers proud.

We finished off the term with a fantastic Easter Bonnet Parade, the hats were spectacular !!

We have had a fantastic term and are so excited for new and exciting opportunities in Summer A.

We hope you all have a fantastic 2 weeks off and look forward to seeing you back in school soon!
