Our theme this term was ‘In a World of Pure Imagination’, and what an adventure it’s been! We explored the magical world of Roald Dahl, diving into a selection of his brilliant books. We had so much fun reading George’s Marvellous Medicine and inventing our own mischievous recipes—complete with predictions of what might happen to Grandma if she had a taste!
Another highlight was Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The excitement was real when a letter from Willy Wonka himself arrived in class, challenging us to design our very own chocolate bar. We visited the shop across the road to research prices, packaging, and flavours, then taste-tested a variety of chocolates to discover our favourites. The creativity flowed as we designed our bars, came up with fun names, and created colourful wrappers. We even recorded adverts to showcase at our official chocolate bar launch! It was a joy to welcome so many families to see the adverts, enjoy our performances, and, of course, taste our delicious creations.
To top it all off, we celebrated with a magical Roald Dahl Day! Children and staff arrived in brilliant costumes—thank you for all the effort that went into them, everyone looked fantastic! We enjoyed an energetic drama workshop with Altru Drama, where we acted out scenes from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, followed a Roald Dahl trail and playing party games in our outdoor learning area. From skittles and “pin the tail on the fox” to a golden egg hunt, it was a day filled with laughter and imagination.
We truly can’t believe Year 2 has come to an end. What an incredible journey it’s been! Your children have amazed us with their enthusiasm, creativity and achievements throughout the year. We are so proud of every one of them—not just this half-term, but all year long.
Wishing you all a happy and sunny summer. We can’t wait to welcome the children back as Year 3s in September!
Thank you so much for your continued support,
The Year 2 Team
