What an action-packed first half term it has been for Year 3! Our young learners have dived headfirst into history, languages, sport, and creativity, making unforgettable memories along the way.
We kicked off our historical adventures with a trip to St Fagans, where the children took part in a Celtic Roundhouse workshop. They experienced first-hand what life was like during the Iron Age, exploring how the Celts lived, worked, and crafted their homes. Inspired by this, back in school, Year 3 designed Celtic shields, built balanced Celtic plates using the Eatwell Guide, and even constructed their own roundhouses from a variety of materials during our Celts Immersion Day. The children had a blast cracking the Celt code, using Adobe Generate to bring their Celtic designs to life, and fully embracing the hands-on learning experience.
The learning continued with our Harvest workshop with ICE Wales, where the children explored seasonal foods and learned about the importance of Harvest. They heard the story of Joseph and his colourful coat and even re-enacted a scene from the tale. The workshop also highlighted the significance of Harvest and how communities come together to celebrate and give thanks for the season’s produce. The children also used their observational skills to sketch pumpkins, bringing them to life with vibrant oil pastels. They focused on detail, colour, and texture, creating beautiful, eye-catching artworks that captured the spirit of the season.

Year 3’s sporting spirit was on full display with Gateway Rugby in 3BM, showing teamwork, determination, and fantastic enthusiasm.

Our love of languages was celebrated on European Day of Languages, where the children took part in a live lesson on Adobe, learning how to communicate and create in different languages in innovative ways.
History came alive once again during our trip to Roman Caerleon. The children joined a Medicine workshop, discovered the grandeur of the amphitheatre, explored the Roman barracks, and delved into fascinating exhibits in the museum. Back at school, our learning continued with virtual workshops on Feasts and Slaves and Roman Bootcamp, giving everyone a deeper understanding of life in Roman times.

This half term, Year 3 has truly stepped back in time, explored new cultures, and embraced exciting creative and sporting challenges. From Celts to Romans, the children have shown curiosity, creativity, and courage every step of the way. We can’t wait to see what adventures the next half term brings!
