What a fantastic Spring B half term we have had in Year 3! The children have absolutely loved our exciting theme, ‘Keys to the Castle’, and have fully immersed themselves in a wide range of creative, hands-on and memorable experiences.
School Trips
One of the highlights of the term was our school trips. Ahead of our visit, the children created detailed and informative Caerphilly Castle leaflets in Literacy. We then had an amazing visit to Caerphilly Castle, where they explored the impressive grounds and brought their learning to life. Their leaflets were even handed into the castle for display.

We also visited the Celtic Manor Resort for an exciting archery session, linking perfectly to our learning about jobs in castles. The children showed great focus, determination and skill – we may have some future archers in our classes!

Eisteddfod
We had a brilliant time celebrating the Eisteddfod, where the children embraced Welsh culture and took part in a variety of creative activities and performances.

World Book Day
World Book Day was a huge success! The children took part in a fun Premier League Stars online quiz. We were also very excited to celebrate the opening of our new library on the school yard.

Gwent Music – Ukulele
Every Monday, Miss H from Gwent Music joined us to teach ukulele. The children have made fantastic progress, learning chords and songs with confidence. We were incredibly proud to showcase our learning during the FACE event, where the children performed brilliantly and loved sharing their new musical skills with others.

STEM
This half term, we have been busy developing our Maths and STEM skills through exciting practical activities. In STEM, the children designed and tested catapults, launching a variety of items including Maltesers, marshmallows, pinballs, love hearts and even a creme egg! They then carefully measured the distances.

Cooking Suite
We also stepped back in time by using the cooking suite, where we made medieval pottage. The children practised weighing, peeling and chopping ingredients accurately, and thoroughly enjoyed tasting their creations.

RVE
We took part in a wonderful Easter workshop with Rachel, where the children designed and decorated their own rocks, showing fantastic creativity.
Gateway Rugby
Mr Davies’ class has really enjoyed our Gateway Rugby sessions for PE this term. We’ve learnt lots of new rugby skills and have had a great time working as a team.

It truly has been a jam-packed and successful half term. Year 3 have worked incredibly hard, shown fantastic enthusiasm, and should be very proud of everything they have achieved.
We hope you all have a lovely Easter break, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back for another exciting term ahead!
