Year 3 Summer B

Year 3 have had a fantastic and action-packed Summer B term, packed with exciting learning, memorable experiences and a brilliant way to round off an incredible year. From performing on stage to exploring the world of football, the children have embraced every opportunity with enthusiasm and confidence.

We began the half-term with our exciting new theme, “Beyond the Pitch.” The children explored what the FIFA World Cup is, discovered where countries competing in the tournament are located around the world and learnt how football brings people together across different cultures. This linked brilliantly with our learning as we developed our map skills and knowledge of continents and countries.

As part of our theme, we also explored the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle. The children learnt about the Eatwell Guide, used traffic light food labels to make healthier choices and investigated the surprising amount of sugar hidden in everyday drinks. They were fascinated by the results and developed a much greater understanding of how food and drink affect our bodies.

Year 3 also enjoyed taking part in our annual Healthy Living Day, where they participated in a variety of fun and engaging activities focused on physical activity, healthy eating and wellbeing. Throughout the day, the children learnt how making healthy choices can have a positive impact on both their bodies and minds, while enjoying lots of exciting challenges and teamwork activities.

In Literacy, the children researched how footballers and other athletes stay fit and healthy before writing detailed explanation texts using their new knowledge. They worked hard to organise their ideas clearly whilst using ambitious vocabulary and technical language.

In Maths, the children enjoyed taking part in an exciting Moki Band Maths lesson, combining movement with problem-solving and teamwork to develop their mathematical skills in a fun and active way.

Our Art lessons introduced us to the colourful work of Keith Haring. After exploring his iconic style, the children created their own vibrant artwork inspired by his bold figures and energetic designs. Their creativity really shone through, producing some fantastic final pieces.

One of the highlights of the half-term was Sports Day, where every child demonstrated excellent determination, resilience and teamwork. It was wonderful to see everyone encouraging one another and trying their very best throughout each event. A particular highlight was the opportunity to throw water balloons at their teachers, which certainly brought plenty of laughter!

The children also wowed everyone during our annual Creative Festival. Miss Gibbons’ class performed Car Wash from Shark Tale, Mrs O’Brien and Mrs Isles’ class performed Zoo from Zootropolis 2, and Mr Davies’ class thrilled everyone with an energetic performance inspired by Michael Jackson’s Thriller. The children worked incredibly hard learning their routines and performed with confidence, enthusiasm and huge smiles.

Our annual Talent Show gave children another opportunity to shine as those who participated confidently showcased a wide range of amazing talents. We were incredibly proud of everyone who took part and supported one another throughout the performances.

To round off the celebrations, Year 3 enjoyed a fantastic Colour Run filled with laughter, excitement and lots of colour, creating memories that will last for years to come.

We were also fortunate to take part in brilliant Chartwells workshops. The children prepared healthy rainbow wraps and energy balls before finishing the year with a ‘Come Dine With Me’ style cooking experience, where they created delicious dishes from around the world including Spanish salsa, an Italian classic and Greek tzatziki, while learning about different cultures through food.

We are incredibly proud of everything Year 3 have achieved this year. They have worked hard, supported one another and thrown themselves into every challenge with enthusiasm, kindness and determination. It has been a wonderful year full of learning, laughter and unforgettable memories. Da iawn, Year 3, and have a fantastic summer!
