This half term year 4 have continued exploring our theme Rolling on a River and have had a fantastic time learning about the features of rivers and the wildlife that lives in and around them. Our trip to Cilfynydd Education Centre was a brilliant experience. We discovered how the water cycle works, how water is collected and cleaned, and gained fascinating insights into riverine habitats and the animals that depend on them.

In Literacy this half term the children have read excerpts from the Iron Man. They’ve completed a range of activities from poetry writing involving exciting language to designing their own imaginary creature, inspired by the Space-Bat-Angel-Dragon.
During our Maths lessons, the children have developed their ability to work with shapes and measures. We read a recipe and measured accurately in grams to make our very own delicious mocktails! We worked hard to create 3d shapes using cocktail sticks and salt dough. Working together we created a cube and a square based pyramid. We also worked to cost holidays, calculate percentages and work out reductions in prices. This will be very useful in the future!

We’ve been so lucky to have some wonderful visitors this term: Glyn from the RNLI teaching us all about water safety, and the amazing animals from Animal Encounters!

We have had a really creative half term. This included creating a wire art sculpture inspired by Jane Tilly. The children also took part in the SJPS Creative Festival in which each class prepared a dance to a song from a Musical. It was such a fun day and they got to showcase their dances to the school and parents.

Luckily, we had a beautiful day for our Y4 Sports Day and everyone took part with enthusiasm. The children enjoyed cheering their friends on, showing off their athletic talents and encouraging their parents to take part in the javelin event at the end.
The children thoroughly enjoyed taking part in our swimming lessons, focusing on swimming strokes, water safety and water confidence. We were so proud of the progress they made and their behaviour at the pool, which was also being used by the public.

To end the term, we showcased what we’d been learning in our theme, Rolling on a River by holding a parental engagement session. The children spoke beautifully and knowledgeably about the topic and their wonderful dioramas. Have a fabulous summer holiday.
