What a busy and exciting start to the year we have had in Year 6! Our children have thrown themselves into a range of fantastic opportunities, showing enthusiasm, maturity and a real willingness to learn. From developing leadership skills to exploring exciting careers, it has certainly been a memorable few weeks!
Head Boy and Head Girl Elections
One of the highlights of the term has been our Head Boy and Head Girl elections. Our Year 6 children demonstrated courage, confidence and excellent leadership qualities as they put themselves forward for these important roles. We were incredibly proud of everyone who took part, particularly those who stepped outside their comfort zones to deliver speeches and share their ideas. Well done to everyone who put themselves forward!
County in the Community – PE Sessions
We have been delighted to welcome County in the Community, who have been delivering weekly PE sessions to our Year 6. These sessions have been a fantastic opportunity for the children to develop their sporting skills, teamwork and communication. Each week, children have approached the activities with determination, enthusiasm and a positive attitude. It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they encourage one another, develop resilience and enjoy being active.
Celebrating Belonging and Diversity – Anti-Racism Workshop
Year 6 also took part in an important and thought-provoking anti-racism workshop, which focused on Cynefin – a Welsh word closely linked to our sense of belonging, identity and connection to the places and communities around us.
Through meaningful discussions and engaging activities, children explored the importance of celebrating our differences, respecting one another and recognising what makes each of us unique. The workshop encouraged everyone to reflect on how their words and actions can help create a positive, welcoming school culture where every pupil feels valued, respected and included. It was a fantastic opportunity to reinforce the importance of kindness, empathy and equality within our school community.
Crucial Crew – Learning to Stay Safe
Our visit to Crucial Crew was another valuable experience for Year 6. Children had the opportunity to learn important safety messages from a range of different organisations, helping them develop the knowledge and confidence to make sensible, informed decisions in everyday situations.
The sessions encouraged children to think carefully about potential risks, personal responsibility and how to keep themselves and others safe. This was particularly valuable as our children become increasingly independent and begin preparing for the transition to secondary school. Everyone represented our school brilliantly, showing excellent listening skills, curiosity and maturity throughout the visit.
Lights, Camera, Action! – Prosthetics Workshop
We were also incredibly fortunate to welcome Jenna McDonnell, who delivered a fascinating workshop exploring the world of prosthetics and their use within the film industry.
This exciting experience gave children an insight into the creativity, skill and attention to detail involved in bringing characters to life on screen. It was a fantastic opportunity to discover some of the interesting careers available behind the scenes in film and television, combining artistic talent with practical skills and imagination.
The workshop certainly sparked plenty of curiosity and inspired our budding artists, designers and future film industry professionals!
Overall, it has been an action-packed term for Year 6, full of creativity, exploration, and hands-on learning. The children have not only developed their knowledge of film and the arts but also built important life skills that will stay with them for years to come. We look forward to continuing with this theme and developing our creativity even more after half term
Well done, Year 6 – keep up the fantastic work!
