I can’t believe it’s already the end of the school year! This term has been so busy, full of exciting learning opportunities, wonderful experiences and lots of special memories. We are so proud of everything they have achieved this year.
One of the highlights of this half term has been continuing our learning all about minibeasts. We were very excited to welcome some caterpillars into Nursery and loved observing the incredible changes as they grew. The children enjoyed retelling the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar, using props and imaginative play to bring the story to life.
Our learning was inspired by the children’s own questions and curiosity. After one child asked, “Why do snails have shells?”, we explored snails and their homes through a range of hands-on activities. The children also became fascinated by worms, leading to another brilliant enquiry question: “How do worms move without legs?” We went on worm hunts outdoors, created clay worms and discovered lots of interesting worm facts together.
We also worked together to create a beautiful whole-class collaborative art project inspired by Eric Carle’s The Very Hungry Caterpillar. The finished piece was a wonderful celebration of the children’s creativity and teamwork. As we learned about butterflies, the children enjoyed making delicious butterfly cakes, carefully measuring ingredients, discussing kitchen safety and following instructions. We then moved onto exploring symmetry by creating colourful symmetrical butterfly artwork.
It was wonderful to welcome our families to Beechwood Park for our end-of-year picnic. We had a fantastic time enjoying games, laughter and plenty of fun in the sunshine together. Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make it such a special day.
As our children prepare for their next adventure, those moving to Reception have enjoyed spending time with their new teachers, visiting their new classrooms and meeting new friends. We have also been taking walks around the school to help them become familiar with their new environment. It has been lovely to see their excitement and growing confidence as they get ready for September.
We had a fantastic Healthy Living Day, where the children completed obstacle courses, joined in with fun exercises, made healthy fruit smoothies and finished the day with a relaxing yoga session. They showed great enthusiasm and enjoyed learning about ways to keep their bodies healthy and active.
Another exciting highlight was our visit from Wild Science. The children loved meeting a variety of different minibeasts and learning all about their habitats, what they eat and how they survive. It was such a fun experience that brought our minibeast topic to life!
We finished the school year in the best possible way with our Creative Festival performance of I Just Can’t Wait to Be King from ‘The Lion King’. The children were absolutely fantastic! We were so proud of their confidence, enthusiasm and smiles as they performed. They looked amazing in their outfits, sang beautifully and remembered all of their dance moves—it was a wonderful way to celebrate the end of the year together.
It has been a truly memorable year, filled with learning, laughter, friendships and achievements. We are incredibly proud of every single child and all that they have accomplished.
We hope everyone has a wonderful, relaxing summer break. We can’t wait to welcome some of our children back into nursery in September for another exciting year, alongside all of our new Nursery friends!
To all of our children moving on to Reception, we wish you the very best of luck in your new adventure. We know you will continue to shine, and we are so proud of each and every one of you. Good luck! ☀️🌈🦋
