We were absolutely delighted this week, to receive a response to an article which the South Wales Argus had written about the return of the Newport Primary Schools’ Football League. Earlier this term, Mr Jones held a Football Festival to relaunch the primary schools’ football league. On the 18th October, reporter Estel Farell-Roig wrote an article about the league which appeared in the South Wales Argus that day. Following the publication of the article, we received a letter this week from a gentleman who attended St. Julian’s Junior School back in the 1950s. Mr. W.G. Marsh congratulates Mr Jones on his campaign to reform the primary schools’ football league and talks about the ‘Harold Lovell Cup’ league that that took place in 1956/57. He also sent photographs of the football teams at St. Julian’s Primary school, one of which includes Bobby Windsor who went on to play professional rugby for Wales.

We were overjoyed to read the letter from Mr Marsh and reminisce in a piece of St. Julian’s Primary School history. If you have any other stories or photographs from your time at St. Julian’s Primary, we would love you to email/post them to us! You can read Mr Marsh’s letter below…
