We usually hold a ‘Great St. Julian’s Bake Off’ in school each year to get children and parents baking together! Baking has so many great skills – following instructions, weighing and measuring, timing… and it’s something which we all enjoy whether we’re good at it… or not so good at it!

With the current situation, we couldn’t hold our Bake off in our school tent as we usually do, so we had to go live. Miss Butcher kindly agreed to lead the live bake-along challenge and she was joined by teachers Miss Marshall and Mr Frost. A number of our staff also joined the live bake off via video link from their own kitchens.

We had around 100 children taking part and following Miss Butcher’s instructions. Throughout the event, we asked children to send us in their pictures and videos as they followed along.

Miss Butcher’s ‘Granny’s Favourite’ jam and sponge cake was delicious and ‘Miss Marshall’s Marvellous Muffins’ were equally as tasty. Mr Frost had a few hiccups along the way – over buttering his cake tins, dropping eggshell in his cake for a bit of extra crunch and burning the bottom layer of his sponge, his cake actually tasted delicious thanks to a special ingredient he found in the staffroom cupboard… caramel flavouring!

Baking from home, Mr Jones held his cake together with a stick through the middle to stop it sliding apart, Mrs Hard and her girls created a very colourful cake with a crack through the middle and Mrs Lewis’ family resorted to colouring when they got bored with the baking! However, Mrs Ford, Mrs Watkins and Mrs Griffiths were clearly expert bakers and created some very professional-looking cakes.

We are genuinely so impressed with the AMAZING cake creations that children have sent in. You all did brilliantly! The only problem is it’s been too difficult to judge a winner, so we are going to send all children who took part a SJPS Live Bake Off certificate and put all your photos on display in the school! Well done all of you!

You can watch our live bake off in the video above, see photos that were sent in throughout the bake off in the video below and see some of the video clips sent in in the bottom video. Thank you so much to everyone who took part. We really enjoyed it and we hope you did too!
