A Roald Dahl Adventure!
What an exciting half term it has been in Year 2! We have immersed ourselves in the wonderful world of Roald Dahl, exploring some of his most famous stories and celebrating the imagination, humour and creativity that make his books so special.
Our classes enjoyed reading The BFG, George’s Marvellous Medicine and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Through these fantastic stories, we explored interesting characters, made predictions, developed our comprehension skills and produced some wonderful pieces of writing inspired by the books. We also enjoyed discussing the themes of kindness, courage, friendship and imagination that run throughout Roald Dahl’s stories.
One of the highlights of the half term was our Roald Dahl Immersion Day. The children looked fantastic as they came to school dressed as their favourite characters, including Willy Wonka, the BFG, Sophie, Matilda, Oompa Loompas and many more. It was wonderful to see so much creativity and enthusiasm, and everyone enjoyed sharing their costumes and talking about the characters they had chosen.
We were also delighted to welcome Altru Drama, who led a series of engaging Roald Dahl workshops. The children had a fantastic time bringing the stories to life through drama, movement and role play. They explored different characters, acted out memorable scenes and used their imaginations to step into the magical worlds created by Roald Dahl. The workshops encouraged confidence, teamwork and creativity, and the children thoroughly enjoyed every minute. We had a wonderful time at our Chocolate Bar launch! The children were so excited to share their hard work and creativity, and it was lovely to welcome families to celebrate with us. Everyone enjoyed seeing the fantastic chocolate bar designs and learning about the thought and effort that went into creating them. Thank you to everyone who came along and supported our Year 2 pupils.
We also had a fantastic Healthy Living Day with the rest of the school. Throughout the day, we rotated around a variety of fun activities on the field, encouraging us to stay active, work together and enjoy being outdoors. The children showed great enthusiasm, teamwork and resilience, making it a fun-filled day that everyone thoroughly enjoyed.
It has been a fun-filled half term packed with laughter, learning and imagination. We are incredibly proud of how enthusiastically the children embraced our Roald Dahl theme and how they used their creativity across all areas of learning.
Well done, Year 2, for another fantastic half term and have a fantastic summer!
