All About Rainforests!

Welcome to the amazing world of rainforests! Rainforests are hot, wet, and full of life. They have tall trees, colorful animals, and lots of rain! Let’s explore these magical forests together!
What Is a Rainforest?
A rainforest is a thick, green forest that gets lots of rain—about 2 meters of rain each year! That’s as tall as a door!
Rainforests are special because:
They have millions of plants and animals.
They help give us oxygen to breathe.
They are warm all year round.
They cover about 6% of the Earth, but have over half of the world’s animals and plants!
Where Are Rainforests?
Rainforests are mostly found near the equator, where it is hot and rainy all year. The biggest rainforests are in:
The Amazon Rainforest – South America (the largest rainforest in the world!)
The Congo Rainforest – Africa
The Daintree Rainforest – Australia
The Southeast Asian Rainforests – Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand
Layers of the Rainforest
Rainforests have four layers, like a giant green cake!
Emergent Layer (Top Layer)
- The tallest trees stick out above everything else.
- Eagles, monkeys, and butterflies live here!
Canopy Layer
- This is the thick roof of the rainforest, where most animals live!
- You’ll find sloths, parrots, and jaguars!
Understory Layer
- Dark and shady, with big leaves and lots of insects.
- Snakes, frogs, and leopards hide here!
Forest Floor (Bottom Layer)
- The ground is dark and damp, with fallen leaves and mushrooms.
- Jaguars, anteaters, and tigers prowl here!
Animals of the Rainforest

Rainforests are home to millions of amazing animals!
Monkeys – Swing through the trees using their long tails!
Parrots & Toucans – Colorful birds that squawk loudly!
Anacondas – Huge snakes that live in rivers!
Poison Dart Frogs – Tiny but super poisonous!
Jaguars – Strong and fast hunters!
Did you know? The Amazon River is home to pink dolphins!
Plants of the Rainforest
Rainforests are full of amazing plants that can grow very tall and never stop growing!
Kapok Trees – Some trees grow as tall as a 10-story building!
Banana Trees – Bananas grow in rainforests!
Orchids – Beautiful flowers that grow on trees!
Medicinal Plants – Many medicines come from rainforest plants!
Did you know? The cocoa plant grows in the rainforest – that’s where we get chocolate!
Why Are Rainforests Important?
Rainforests help the whole planet!
They make oxygen – About 20% of the air we breathe comes from rainforests!
They help stop climate change by absorbing carbon dioxide.
They give homes to animals – More than half of the world’s animals live here!
They provide medicine – Many life-saving medicines come from rainforest plants!
Threats to Rainforests
Sadly, rainforests are in danger! People cut down trees for wood, farms, and roads. This is called deforestation.
Trees are cut down to make space for farms.
Fires destroy forests and kill animals.
Buildings and roads replace nature.
If we lose the rainforests, we lose animals, plants, and clean air!
How Can We Help?
We can all help save the rainforests!
Recycle paper so fewer trees are cut down.
Buy rainforest-friendly products (like chocolate and coffee).
Plant trees to help the environment.
Support charities that protect the rainforest.
Learn and teach others about why rainforests matter!
Fun Rainforest Facts!
The Amazon Rainforest is called the “Lungs of the Earth” because it makes so much oxygen!
Some rainforest trees grow over 60 meters tall – that’s taller than a school building!
It can rain every day in a rainforest!
There are over 2.5 million types of insects in the rainforest!
What Can You Do?

Draw your own rainforest with animals and trees!
Write a story about an adventure in the rainforest!
Research your favourite rainforest animal and share a fun fact!
The rainforest is one of the most amazing places on Earth! Let’s help protect it so future generations can enjoy it too!
