What a fantastic term we have had in Reception exploring our exciting topic, “All Creatures Great and Small!” The classroom has been buzzing with excitement as we discovered amazing animals, explored life on the farm and became scientists and artists too!
We started our learning journey by finding out all about farm animals and their babies. The children loved learning the names of baby animals and talking about the important jobs farmers do every single day. From caring for sheep and pigs to collecting eggs and feeding animals, we discovered just how busy farm life can be!
One of the most exciting moments this term was a very special visit from a guide dog. The children were fascinated to learn how these incredible dogs help people and were amazed by how clever and well-trained they are. We talked about kindness, teamwork and the important ways animals can help us every day.
We also had a wonderful visit from Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm, which brought lots of excitement to Reception! The children enjoyed meeting different animals up close and asking brilliant questions about how they live, what they eat and how they are cared for. There were smiles, laughter and lots of animal noises throughout the day!
Our Reception scientists carried out a magical experiment using food colouring and flowers. We carefully placed flowers into coloured water and watched closely over time to see what would happen. The children were amazed to discover that the flowers changed colour as they “drank” the water through their stems — it felt just like magic!
In our creative area, we were inspired by the story What the Ladybird Heard and the beautiful artwork of Luned Rhys Parri. The children designed and created their own colourful ladybird art using different patterns, textures and painting techniques. Our classroom gallery looked absolutely amazing!
It has been such a fun-filled term packed with learning, laughter and unforgettable experiences. We are so proud of how curious, creative and enthusiastic the children have been.
We can’t believe that next half term will be their very last term in Reception before they get ready for their exciting move into Year 1 — we are looking forward to making lots more special memories together!
