Year 3 have had a fantastic and busy Summer A term exploring our exciting theme, “Trapped in a Rainforest!” We have immersed ourselves in rainforest learning across many different subjects and enjoyed lots of memorable experiences along the way.

We began our topic by learning all about rainforests around the world and comparing their weather to our own at SJPS. In Maths, we explored temperature and rainfall data and used our school weather station to investigate and compare weather patterns between tropical rainforests and our local area. The children really enjoyed becoming weather experts and interpreting real data.

In Art, we studied the famous artist Henri Rousseau and created our own vibrant rainforest artwork inspired by his jungle scenes. The classroom was soon filled with colourful leaves, tropical animals and imaginative rainforest landscapes.

To celebrate Earth Day, Year 3 took part in an online lesson exploring the rainforest biome and learning about the importance of protecting our planet. The children shared thoughtful ideas about how we can help care for the environment.

One of the highlights of the term was our Expressive Languages workshop performance for the infant classes. The children learnt and performed songs in Welsh, French, Spanish, Italian and German, all based around foods from different cultures. They showed great confidence and enthusiasm while celebrating languages from around the world.

We also enjoyed a wonderful Cultural Day where children dressed up to celebrate their own cultures and heritage. Everyone had the opportunity to try foods from different countries and learn more about the traditions and experiences of others within our school community.

This term also saw the exciting launch of Moki Bands and our “Mission to Move” workouts. Year 3 have loved getting active and taking part in energetic movement sessions throughout the day.

During our RVE workshops, the children took part in The Singing Shepherd, where they explored important themes through storytelling, discussion and music.

To finish our rainforest theme, Year 3 visited Plantasia for an unforgettable trip. During the Rainforest Ranger workshop, the children had the opportunity to hold and meet a variety of rainforest animals before exploring the rainforest environment themselves. It was a fantastic way to bring all of our learning to life and a brilliant end to the topic.

We are incredibly proud of all the hard work, enthusiasm and curiosity Year 3 have shown this term. Da iawn, Year 3!
