Today, we held our wonderful Cultural Celebration Day at school, and it was fantastic to see our school community come together to celebrate the many cultures that make us unique.
Children were invited to come to school wearing their national dress or something that represents their culture. It was lovely to see so many children proudly dressed in clothing that is special to them and confidently sharing with friends and teachers why it is important to their families and heritage.
Throughout the day, children had the opportunity to learn about the different cultures within their classroom communities and take part in a range of creative activities inspired by traditions from around the world. The day provided a wonderful opportunity for children to learn from one another, ask questions and celebrate the similarities and differences that make our community so special.
In the Infants, we were very lucky and grateful to welcome Mr and Mrs Sandhu, who delivered a special assembly for the children. They spoke about their family and culture, and Mr Sandhu introduced the children to his Dhol drum. The children loved listening to the powerful rhythms and were invited to clap along to the beat, creating a lively and memorable experience for everyone involved.
In the afternoon, Lauren from Chartwells visited the Junior children to deliver an engaging assembly called ‘Foods from Around the World’. The children were taken on a delicious journey across the globe, exploring foods and cuisines from different countries before being invited onto the stage to taste a variety of dishes. The children sampled foods from Italy, Mexico and India and thoroughly enjoyed trying new flavours. They also learnt greetings and ways to thank others in different languages from around the world.
We are incredibly proud of our rich and diverse cultural community and value opportunities like this to celebrate and learn from one another. Days like today help our children to develop respect, understanding and appreciation for the many cultures that make our school such a welcoming place to be.
